Wall Art Sizes Explained: A Simple Guide in Centimetres
Ordering wall art online goes wrong in one predictable way: the piece arrives and it is smaller than it looked on screen. Product photos are styled to fill the frame, which makes everything look large. The fix is to stop judging by the photo and start working in centimetres.
Our size system
Most of our designs come in five sizes. For round and square pieces:
- Small — 22x22cm
- Medium — 28x28cm
- Large — 33x33cm
- Extra Large — 38x38cm
- Extra Premium Large — 45x45cm
For rectangular pieces: 22x30cm, 25x35cm, 30x40cm, 31x60cm and 40x81cm.
The paper test
Before ordering, cut newspaper or chart paper to the exact size you are considering and tape it to the wall. Live with it for a day. This takes five minutes and prevents the single most common return request we receive. An A4 sheet is 21x30cm, which is very close to our smallest rectangular size — useful as a quick reference.
Matching size to furniture
Wall art above furniture should span roughly two-thirds of the furniture's width:
- Three-seater sofa (about 200cm) → 40x81cm, or a group of pieces
- Two-seater or loveseat (about 150cm) → 31x60cm or 30x40cm
- Console or side table (about 100cm) → 33x33cm or 30x40cm
- Study desk → 22x30cm or 28x28cm
- Narrow wall between doors → 22x22cm
Room by room
Living room: this is where to go large. Extra Large and Extra Premium Large sizes exist for exactly this wall.
Bedroom: Large works above a headboard; Medium suits a side wall.
Hallway: Small and Medium, since you view them from close range.
Office or study: Medium to Large, positioned at seated eye level.
When to go bigger than you planned
If you are genuinely torn between two sizes, take the larger one. Undersized wall art is the more common regret by a wide margin — a slightly large piece reads as confident, while a slightly small one reads as unfinished.
Multiple pieces
For sets, treat the whole group as one shape and apply the two-thirds rule to the group, not to each piece. Keep 8 to 15cm of spacing between pieces so they read as a single arrangement.
